Pakistani-Dutch Community organizes Cricket Championship Cup for 2009


A group  of young Pakistani-Dutch cricketers, known as Pak Patriots NL, under the patronage of the Ambassador of Pakistan, organized the first ever Pakistan Community Cricket Championship Cup in the lush green stadium of Voorburg Cricket Club on Sunday 26th July 2009. The tournament was inaugurated by the Ambassador of Pakistan, who also batted the first over which was bowled by manager of Pakistan International Airline.

 Six teams of young Pakistani-Dutch cricketers, two each from Amsterdam, The Hague and Rotterdam displayed entertaining cricket on the luxuriant green ground of the Voorburg Cricket Club.  The final match was won by The Hague Green team led by M. Hussain. Mr. Raza Sharif won the Man of the Match award and Mr. Mudassar Bokhari was declared Man of the Tournament and was awarded a return ticket for Amsterdam-Istanbul sector sponsored by KomforTours. The Ambassador of Pakistan gave away awards and trophies to the winning teams and players as well as addressed the gathering. He commended the organizing team comprising Ahmad Zulfiqar, Bilal Saleem, Mohsin Ghaznavi, Zeeshan Akram, Usman Malik, Mudassar Bukhari, M Hussain and Mohsin Salman. He also announced that this Championship will be turned into an annual feature. 

A large segment of Pakistani-Dutch community, including families, witnessed the amusing Cricket matches besides partaking themselves of the refreshing and picturesque ambiance of the Club, encircled by tall green trees. Also present were a number of Dutch spectators. The community greatly appreciated the initiative and promised to extend full support to the event in the future.
