Independence Day celebration in the Netherlands
Pakistani-Dutch community gathered in large numbers in a Reception held at the residence of the Ambassador of Pakistan in The Hague to celebrate Pakistan Independence Day.
This was in continuation of the flag-hoisting ceremony held at the Chancery building earlier on 14 August to mark 63rd Independence Day of Pakistan. The Reception was organized on Sunday to facilitate the participation of the Pakistani Dutch community.
After the solemn flag hoisting ceremony, and reading out of messages from the President and the Prime Minister, Ambassador Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry was joined by the senior most Pakistani in the Netherlands, Mr Tufail Dar, who came to the Netherlands forty seven years ago in 1962, to cut a huge cake specially made for the occasion. PIA manager also joined.
The participants exuded high national spirit as the Ambassador recounted in his address the valuable contributions made by the Pakistani-Dutch community this year to Pakistan ranging from helping the dislocated families in the NWFP to promoting Pakistan’s positive image through sports to endeavors to promote bilateral trade and investment.
In keeping with the directive of the democratic government, Pakistan Embassy is maintaining an example setting cooperative relationship with the Pakistani-Dutch community. The overwhelming positive response of the community was evident during the Reception.
The two hundred and fifty prominent Pakistanis who attended the Reception were entertained with delicious Pakistani dishes, including Pakistani sweets specially flown in by PIA and Pakistani mangoes.
