Ambassador calls on Minister Koenders to discuss development cooperation

Ambassador Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry called on Development Cooperation Minister, Mr. Koenders, to discuss ways of promoting development cooperation between Pakistan and the Netherlands. The meeting took place in Minister Koender’s office on 4 November 2009. Ambassador Chaudhry briefed the Minister on the recent developments in the region. He also noted the positive momentum in bilateral relations between the two countries.

Minister Koenders expressed his appreciation for the commendable role Pakistan is playing in the global fight against terrorism, and recalling his visit to Pakistan in 2007 reaffirmed the commitment of the Netherlands to promote development cooperation with Pakistan as part of the overall up-gradation of bilateral ties.

The Netherlands is a member of the Friends of Democratic Pakistan forum. Minister Koenders had led the Dutch delegation to the Tokyo ministerial meeting of the Friends process, and pledged 86 million euro for the period up to 2011 focusing the development cooperation in three sectors: education, environment/water management, and good governance/human rights.

The two countries are working together to promote bilateral political and economic relations through high level exchanges and various investment promotion programmes and the strengthening of Pakistan-Netherlands business interaction.
